Report of the trial of James Muspratt taken in shorthand at the Liverpool Assizes by Charles Macqueen, 1838.

Contains a full transcript of the trial, based on Charles Macqueen's report. Muspratt was charged with causing a nuisance with his factory by the manufacture of soda on a large scale using the Leblanc process. Hydrochloric acid used in this process created numerous pollutants including acid-rain and harmful vapors. Muspratt was found guilty of causing a nuisance and was later forced to move his business to another town.
